New parts, strange codes?
When your Bobcat loader needs a software update
If your Bobcat loader suddenly starts acting up - maybe your drive motors stop working, or your lift and tilt aren’t responding - it might not be a mechanical problem. The issue could be your machine’s software.
Why this happens
Every Bobcat loader has multiple electronic controllers that communicate through the ECU (electronic control unit) to make sure all systems work together properly. When you install new parts or components – especially if you perform your own maintenance - those new parts may have updated software versions that don’t match what’s currently on your ECU.
When the software versions don’t align, your machine can start throwing random codes or certain functions may stop working altogether.
(Bobcat excavators also rely on software updates to stay in sync, and the same issues can occur, though excavators typically have fewer controllers than loaders.)
The fix is simple
If you’ve recently replaced Bobcat parts yourself and your machine is now showing error codes or acting strangely, bring it to one of our service locations. Our technicians will:
- Connect your machine to our diagnostic computer
- Perform any needed software updates or calibrations
- Make sure all controllers are communicating properly
The process is quick - typically 30 to 90 minutes - and once the updates are complete, your equipment will be back to running as it should.
